Yoga is a system for restoring balance to the body, mind and spirit. By working with the body and the breath in a series of postures (asanas), yoga enables you to release muscle tension, gain flexibility and strength, and quiet the mind. Yoga is non-competitive—you work with yourself as you are. No matter your age or physical fitness, practicing Yoga will leave you feeling energetic and full of life with a peaceful and balanced mind-state.
The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word ”yug” or yoke. It means “union”. Yoga union is first created between body and breath, then breath and mind, and finally between mind and spirit. Practicing asana brings union between the body and breath and lays the foundation necessary to develop the deeper levels of union.
Joe and Nicole teach classical Yoga, incorporating all components of Yoga science and philosophy. Asana is just one aspect. Breathing practices are also an essential part of practice. Classical Yoga also includes healthy living, contemplation and meditation.
Although daily classes will focus on asana, we will offer classes on the other aspects in special weekend workshops.
We invite you to come take a class with us or just stop by to say hello and have a cup of tea in our tea lounge.
